Job Description
This role is responsible for performing safety analysis in
accordance with the appropriate industry standards and guidance,
authoring and reviewing safety analysis/PRA-related documents, and
providing results and insights to the design of X-energy
technologies. This role will use software to create and maintain
models that represent the design of X-energy projects and
technologies. They will also produce and review calculation
documents that support and control the safety analysis model files,
use models, and apply them to a range of applications to support
the design and future operation of X-energy projects and
technologies.
Job Profile Tasks/Responsibilities
- Lead the execution of the core tasks and responsibilities,
listed in the Job Profile Task/Responsibilities section of this
document, without close supervision and some latitude for
independent judgment.
- Provide feedback and guidance to more junior team members with
the execution of the core tasks and responsibilities listed in the
Job Profile Task/Responsibilities section of this document.
- Shares knowledge related to industry best practices and
standards with others across the team.
- Lead system-level thermal-fluid analyses and process design
using 1-D system simulation codes.
- Guide, initiate source term analyses and radiological
consequence analysis.
- Lead development of models to support licensing basis event
analysis and evaluations.
- Perform elementary mathematical model programming for
engineering calculations.
- Develop verification and validations plans, including code
V&V efforts.
- Able to show increasing proficiency interpreting, applying, and
assessing Standards.
- Collaborate and communicate with key stakeholders in
engineering, project leadership, and across the safety analysis
team to provide frequent updates on progress of projects, maintain
the correct order of priorities and ability to adapt to change, and
raise concerns when there are problems with projects and/or
timelines.
- Provide engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the
identification, analysis, and resolution of problems of increasing
scope and complexity.
- Contribute to team decision-making in the accomplishment of
business goals and objectives through effective planning,
organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work
activities; deal with changing priorities and differing situations
and make decisions that may affect the work of the team.
- Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports,
correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches related
to well-defined problems and analysis of increasing scope and
complexity.
- Conduct engineering and related studies; complete routine
engineering projects with minimal oversight with increasing ability
to independently manage project schedules and interfaces.
- Develop and maintain safety basis documents and safety basis
program procedures.
- Identify and describe the interrelationship of safety basis
requirements to existing and new designs and operations.
- Develop, maintain, and produce technical documentation to
inform system/subsystem requirements and specifications.
- Interface with customers and regulators in nuclear safety
reviews and technical working group meetings to comply with
requirements and meet project objectives.
- Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all
forms of communication.
- Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
Job Profile Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (nuclear, chemical,
mechanical, etc.) from an ABET accredited university required.
- Typically, ten years of experience in an engineering role
required.
- A master's degree in engineering or related field (may include
a combination of experience obtained through an academic
institution, e.g., design projects, research, or design teams, as
well as professional experience) may be in lieu of two years of
experience.
- A Ph.D. in engineering or related field (may include a
combination of experience obtained through an academic institution,
e.g., design projects, research, or design teams, as well as
professional experience) may be in lieu of three years of
experience.
- Previous experience at X-energy meeting performance standards
may be in lieu of years of experience.
- Experience demonstrating the acceptability of safety analysis
methods to regulators, such as the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory
Commission, through development of Licensing Topical Reports and
Safety Analysis Reports (Preferred).
- Knowledge of regulatory guidance related to safety analysis,
such as Regulatory Guide 1.203 or 1.183 (Preferred).
- Experience with using insights from the safety analysis to
inform design criteria. Specifically, knowledge and experience
using NEI 18-04 is a huge plus (Preferred).
- Previous experience with planning analysis work scope to
nuclear quality (e.g., NQA-1) standards including defining
interfaces, effort estimates, cost, risks, and schedules
(Preferred).
Location: 530 Gaither Road, Rockville, MD
Travel Expectations: 10% (As needed for project assignment)
Hours: Standard office hours are 8:00 am ET to 5:00pm ET, Monday -
Friday
Compensation
As required by Maryland and other applicable state law, X Energy,
LLC (X-energy) lists the expected compensation range for a publicly
advertised job opportunity based upon the job requirements (e.g.
education/training, experience, skill sets, etc.). Individual
candidates who meet the job requirements for the posted position
will be offered a salary within this range based on their
respective levels of education/training, experience, and other
qualifications unique to them. Salary ranges may vary based on the
specific office location and region referenced in the posting to
take into consideration differences in cost of living and may not
be reflective of all regions. Please note that compensation ranges
listed for US job postings reflect base salary only and do not
include benefits or other incentives.
A reasonable estimate for this position at the level of experience
required is:
142,560 - 182,160
