Job Description:
The purpose of this class within the organization is to install,
repair, adjust, and maintain all electrical circuits of the town
buildings, parks, and traffic signals under the guidance and
training of the more experienced technician; and respond to
electrical emergencies.This class works under general supervision,
within established work methods and sequencesWork Schedule: -Monday
through Friday 7:00 AM to 3:30 PMOvertime as necessary and
mandatory during emergency situationsAll new employees must
satisfactorily complete a background check. A conditional offer of
employment may then be made contingent upon the successful
completion of a physical exam that includes drug testing.This is a
Non-Exempt Position. -
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of
the time spent working in this class. Management may assign
additional functions related to the type of work of the class as
necessary. -Essential Functions:Installs, maintains, troubleshoots,
and repairs electrical components and circuits in town buildings
and properties, including traffic signals, signal loops for vehicle
detection, telephone and data lines; repairs and adds on to live
circuits.
Insures that all work is performed using appropriate safety
equipment and protection in accordance with established safety
standards under proper safety conditions.
Regularly practices, under the tutelage of the more experienced
technician, the monitoring and updating of traffic signal timing,
phasing, coordination, and proper operation from the traffic
controller in the field and from a central computer.
Assists in the replacement of defective traffic signal L.E.D.
lights in signal heads using a bucket truck while maintaining a
signalized intersection.
Gains experience in the design and creation of street and traffic
signs using the computer and cutter/plotter; installs street signs,
regulatory signs, and town specific signs.
Prepares and/or processes various records and reports such as
electrical calculations on circuits, devices, and systems; traffic
counts; items and expenses for maintenance and upgrade of
electrical and traffic signal needs; traffic studies on accidents,
speed violations, and pedestrians.
Gains experience in operating a variety of equipment and vehicles
such as bucket truck, front-end loader, backhoe, dump trucks,
traffic signal controller, A.T.S.I. testing equipment, electrical
tester, and traffic signal test cabinet; uses a desktop/laptop
computer and a variety of computer software such as CLMATS,
Microsoft Office, Synchro/Sim Traffic, Roadway Data, and Easy Draw

Additional Duties:
Assists in the removal and repair of Town concrete; helps prepare
forms for concrete work and installs them at the correct grade.
Installs and removes approved banners across the main road
utilizing the bucket truck; flags traffic during the banner
operation ensuring the safety of the crew and motorists.

and body movement. -Performs medium work that involves walking,
standing, stooping, jumping, stretching, or lifting all of the time
and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a
regular and recurring basis or exceptional skill, adeptness, and
speed in the use of fingers, hands, or limbs in tasks involving
very close tolerances or limits of accuracy. -Equipment Usage:
-Equipment usage involves responsibility for materials, machines,
tools, equipment, work aids, and products. -Handles or uses
machines, tools, equipment or work aids involving moderate latitude
for judgment regarding attainment of a standard or in selecting
appropriate items. -Unavoidable Hazards: -Unavoidable hazards refer
to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards
even though precautions have been taken. -Involves routine and
frequent exposureto electrical shock; heights. -Safety of Others:
-Safety of others refers to the level of responsibility for the
safety of others, either inherent in the job or to ensure the
safety of the general public. (Does not include safety of
subordinates). -Requires considerable responsibility for the safety
and health of others.
Requires High School diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by
specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one year
of college in Electrical Circuits, Electronics or closely related
area.
Requires one year of full-time traffic lighting systems, electrical
circuit, electronic equipment or other closely related
experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
Must possess or be able to obtain within 18 months of appointment
Category 5 certification, IMSA Work Zone Safety certification, IMSA
Traffic Signal Level I Technician certification, IMSA Associate
Signs and Marking Specialist Level I, OSHA Electrical Safety, and
OSHA Lockout/Tag-Out Safety certifications.
Valid State driver's license.
