Senior Campaigner: Climate, Food, and AgricultureMighty Earth is accepting applications for a Senior Campaigner to drive climate action across the U.S. food and agriculture sector. A key focus of our efforts is transforming the meat and dairy industry, the source of more climate pollution than the entire transportation sector, to adopt climate-friendly agricultural policies and practices and shift to sustainable plant-based protein.Who We AreFounded in 2016, Mighty Earth is a growing global advocacy organization with a goal to protect Nature and secure a climate that allows life to flourish. We aspire to be the most effective environmental advocacy organization in the world.Headquartered in Washington D.C., Mighty Earth has built strong partnerships globally, and currently has staff based across the United States, South America, and Europe. We have played a leading role in persuading the world's largest food and agriculture companies to adopt policies to eliminate deforestation, reduce emissions, as well as land-grabbing, slave and child labor, and other human rights abuses from the palm oil, cocoa, beef, soy, and rubber industries, and driven adoption of multi-billion-dollar shifts to clean energy. We are working to drive similar transformation in the meat industry, the largest agricultural driver of rainforest destruction and climate pollution.Your responsibilities will include:Strategy and Implementation:

  • Developing and executing Mighty Earth's work in the United States climate, agriculture, and food systems to reduce methane emissions and protect the climate, including launching high-impact market campaigns focused on U.S. supermarkets and food brands.
  • Producing reports, briefings, and other campaign materials.
  • Maintaining expertise on food and agriculture systems and their intersection with methane emissions and climate change.
  • Leading U.S. focused Mighty Earth investigations, including field investigations and desk-based analyses to support the outcomes of the campaign.
  • Reaching out to and building relationships with key stakeholders and partners, including organizing and participating in meetings and coalitions.Communications and Engagement:
    • Participating in meetings with senior corporate executives and sustainability teams to advance progress and address climate issues.
    • Developing relationships with and strategic interventions for policymakers to implement policy and legal levers to reduce agricultural emissions.
    • Working with outside lawyers on legal strategies to address agriculture's climate impact.
    • Working with the communications and digital teams to co-create powerful communications and digital strategies.Organizational Support:
      • Working closely with other Mighty Earth communications, investigations, policy, and campaign staff.
      • Identifying opportunities for funding our work and participating in discussions with funders and the development of grant proposals.
      • Fulfilling all compliance requirements, including supporting grant reporting and time tracking.What we are looking for in you:Required qualifications:
        • You are passionate about protecting the environment and advancing a more just society.
        • You have experience in a campaign setting.
        • You are an excellent project manager and can manage competing priorities across a cross-team environment.
        • You are comfortable working with various internal and external stakeholders and networking and building coalitions across diverse constituencies.
        • You are comfortable communicating with senior decision-makers.
        • You are skilled at figuring out how to move decision-makers.
        • You thrive in a highly dynamic environment where changes in politics, economics, and other external events create opportunities and challenges on a regular basis.
        • You write well and can take complex information and distill it into understandable products such as press releases, blogs, social media, reports, talking points, and letters.
        • You have experience with and are committed to working with people from a variety of backgrounds, including different ethnic, racial, and religious communities, ideally including in an international setting.Preferred qualifications:
          • You have at least 5 years of work experience.
          • Experience (or expertise) working on issues related to beef or agriculture and climate issues.

The Senior Campaigner will work remotely. For candidates based in the DC area, there is an option to work out of our Washington, D.C. headquarters two times/week. The position involves 15-25% travel.This position requires an initial one-year commitment, with the possibility to extend, depending on funding.Compensation and benefits: The salary range for this position is $75,000 to $100,000, depending on experience.
