IntroductionThe Department of Information Technology (DoIT)
leads the State in the creation and implementation of information
technology solutions that improve IT infrastructure and government
services and keep Maryland current within IT industry trends.The
individual for this position will work closely with technical
leads, infrastructure and operations teams and other
cross-department teams to provide end-to-end technical solutions
and manage, operate, monitor, audit, and secure server
virtualization assets.GRADE: STD 0020LOCATION OF POSITION: 100
Community Place, Crownsville, MD 21032Main Purpose of Job:
Participate in the implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of
DoIT's data backup network infrastructure including virtual
appliances, servers, backup software, and related components. The
engineer will also help with daily ops support including setting up
backup policies, backup rotation, disaster recovery, and return to
operation for new or existing customers.This position will need to
be able to operate backup infrastructure technologies, i.e.
Commvault, NAS, and their configurations. Employees will also
coordinate the development, implementation, maintenance, and
enhancement of the enterprise SFTP service platform MoveIT.This
position will be responsible for all technological duties
associated with supporting Cloud Services with escalated incidents
and production support issues stemming from service desk
technicians. Employees will lead the hands-on implementation in
building virtual and physical appliances in the datacenter, with
experience in configuring backups, disaster recovery, Active
Directory, and security hardening. This includes supporting a large
environment of 1500+ servers within 2 datacenters and multiple
storage systems.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Experience: Seven years of
experience designing and implementing complex data communications
or telecommunications networks.Notes:
- Candidates may substitute a bachelor's degree from an
accredited college or university in Computer Information
Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or
other information technology-related fields of study to include
coursework in database management systems for up to four years of
the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute additional graduate education at an
accredited college or university, at the rate of thirty credit
hours for each year of the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service
experience in Database Administration classifications or Database
Administration specialty codes in the Information Technology field
of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and
education.DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two years of experience administering, troubleshooting, and
upgrading backup infrastructure.
- Two years of experience in maintaining and troubleshooting
VMWare environment.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:Employees in this
classification may be subject to call-in 24 hours a day and,
therefore, may be required to provide the employing agency with a
telephone number where the employee can be reached. Employees may
be furnished with a pager or cell phone. Applicants for this
classification may handle sensitive data. This will require a full
scope background investigation prior to appointment. A criminal
conviction may be grounds for rejection of the applicant. Employees
may occasionally be required to travel to field locations and must
have access to an automobile in the event a state vehicle cannot be
provided. Standard mileage allowance will be paid for use of a
