Job Description:
Position Summary:The CAO- Neurosciences, Neurology and
Neurosurgery-Johns Hopkins Hospital is responsible for the
strategic development, operations and continuous performance
improvement of a clinical, academic and research department. The
CAO is responsible for operations at the affiliated hospitals and
Neurosciences at Johns Hopkins Hospital staffed by the department's
physicians and harmonization of procedures and protocols across
JHHS. Additionally, the CAO will serve as the administrative leader
for the two School of Medicine departments of Neurology and
Neurosurgery.The CAO is responsible for the department's operations
and is expected to act in the interests of JHM. This role is
responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of
the department of Neurology and Neurosurgery and their clinical
practices' strategic operational plan, along with providing
management for their immediate and long-term strategic plans.The
CAO will have responsibilities for space allocation, HR &
recruitment for all 4 institutes within the department
including:
- Sheikh Khalifa Stroke Institute
- Neurosurgery Pain Research InstituteThe CAO assists, in the
form of analysis, consultation and planning, to the department
Director(s) and executive leadership team. The CAO will also work
with the other JHHS sites providing Neurology and Neurosurgery
services to right-size organizational capacity, optimize financial
performance and provide high quality care. The CAO is responsible
for the administrative staff in executing the department's
clinical, academic and research activities.The general scope of
responsibilities includes: strategic planning, financial
management/analysis, budget development and execution, grants
management, contract administration, compensation planning,
personnel and management recruiting, utilization and productivity
management, marketing, general operations, space management,
management of Philanthropy teams of the Departments of Neurology
and Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins University and Hospital and
external services in the JHM. Additionally, the CAO is responsible
for the department's Professional Fee Billing Office "Production
Unit."He/she is responsible for the department's and staff's
satisfactory compliance with the rules and regulations of The Johns
Hopkins University School of Medicine and Clinical Practice
Association. In addition, the CAO is responsible for assuring
compliance with Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health Systems
regulatory requirements. The position requires a firm understanding
of national health care and research trends/impacts, policies and
issues.Reporting Relationship:The CAO has a matrix reporting
relationship to both chairpersons of Neurology and Neurosurgery,
the CFO for SOM and the COO of JHH. The CAO is a key contact for
external relationships, including industry and government
affairs.Duties and Responsibilities:The CAO plays key leadership
roles in the Neurology and Neurosurgery Department in the following
areas:
- Strategic Programmatic Planning
- Financial Management
- Practice Management
- Clinical Aspect
- Neurosciences, Neurology and Neurosurgery Department
AdministrationEducational Qualifications & Experience:
- A bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting, or a
related field is required.
- A master's degree in MBA, MHA, MPH, or a related field is
strongly preferred.
- Experience working within an Academic Medical center/large
integrated delivery system with a focus on operations and
performance improvement is preferred.
- A minimum of 4-5 years of experience as an administrator in an
academic medical or surgical department is required; experience in
neurosciences is preferred.
- Experience in strategic planning, growth strategies, and
network and business development within healthcare is highly
desirable.
- Exceptional leadership, mediation abilities, and multitasking
skills are required.
- A strong commitment to customer service and excellence in
healthcare is essential.
- Demonstrated success in relationship building is critical.
- An outstanding communicator and collaborator with the
leadership presence to command respect and influence.
- A driver of change, capable of managing conflict with
adaptability and agility.
- A person of the highest personal and professional ethics and
character.Salary Range: Minimum 225,000.00 per hour - Maximum
270,000.00 per hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity
and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.In
cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary
discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any
subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate
